Tea and solar

Despite the title of this blog,, up til now I have yet to figure out any way to link climate change and tea. But that’s all changed, thanks to this great link and video:
Boffin builds DIY solar cell from doughnuts and tea
(Warning:: this video may make you lose your appetite for powdered doughnuts)

Basically they make a dye-sensitized solar cell using titanium dioxide (a good semiconductor) purified from powdered doughnuts and sensitized using a dye from passion tea.

This reminds me of a painful summer I spent doing experiments on dye-sensitized solar cells back in high school. It was painful becuase I’m the worst experimentalist ever; we weren’t able to collect any good data all summer, and then the experiment started working perfectly the week after I left. Probably I should’ve just used the titanium dioxide to make doughnuts instead.
